Description

The purpose of this project is to widen SR 237 (Piedmont Road) to add lanes between Peachtree Road and Lenox Road. It will also add a center left turn lane, sidewalks, and bike lanes. It is intended to increase traffic capacity, improve accident safety in the area, and increase access to nearby commercial and residential properties.

However, such safety and quality-of-life improvements can take a lot more land than you might realize. If you have property in the vicinity of SR 237 from Peachtree Road to Lenox Road, GDOT might take some or all of it for this project. Prepare yourself by being informed about what to do when you receive the government’s initial offer.

Business and Homeowner Concerns

When the government is engaged in a project for the common good, it has the power to take private property through eminent domain. But, despite this, GDOT is still required to give you fair compensation for the value of your land.

GDOT is a consumer like any other in that it seeks to acquire property for the lowest cost possible. As a result, it’s likely that its initial offer for your land will be too low and may fail to consider its full value.

For example, the government’s initial offer may fail to take relocation expenses into account. We can help you fight for the full value of your land – you don’t have to accept the government’s initial offer, but once you do, there’s no going back. That’s why it’s important to reach out to an eminent domain attorney who can help you understand your rights and your options.

Contact us online or by calling 1-888-871-1790 if GDOT’s plans affect your property.

What to Do if Your Property Is Affected

GDOT has set aside an estimated $15,200,000 for right-of-way acquisition in 2021 for this project. However, once you accept the government’s initial offer, there’s no going back. That’s why we urge you to consult with an experienced eminent domain attorney before accepting any GDOT offer. We can evaluate your offer and identify available pathways to additional compensation that might be present.

Call 1-888-391-1339 or contact us as soon as possible for a free case evaluation.

The government’s initial offer amount is yours to keep no matter what. We also advance the costs of fighting your case, absorbing those costs if we’re not able to help you receive more compensation.

We set up our payment structure this way because we’re so confident in our ability to increase your initial offer amount. In fact, we tend to triple our clients’ average initial offer amounts.1

evaluation today.

There are only a handful of attorneys in GA who practice eminent domain exclusively. And even fewer with DOT experience. That’s why it’s always worth it to get a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
